Every design decision is also a cost decision.
A product can be beautiful and unmakeable, or cheap and unsellable. Development is the work of finding the version that is neither — which means knowing what each choice moves before it is made.

Before a custom programme starts
- How resolved does an idea need to be?
- You do not need a production-ready drawing to begin. A dimension, a material direction and a target price are enough to begin a conversation about feasibility.
- Is this the same as bespoke furniture?
- No. This is commercial development for retail and brand programmes — products designed to be manufactured repeatedly, packed for transit and reordered. It is not a one-off domestic commission.
- What happens if the first sample is wrong?
- That is what a sample is for. Corrections are agreed against the physical piece and carried into the next round before production is committed.
- Can you develop against a fixed target price?
- A target price is one of the most useful things you can bring. It constrains material and construction decisions from the start rather than after the first quotation.
- What do we get at the end of development?
- A specified product and an approved physical reference — enough for production to be quoted, run and repeated against a fixed standard.
